I just got an email from Warren Buffett...
... Or not actually from Warren Buffett, but from Munger, Tolles & Olson, the law firm Charlie Munger co-founded, which still does all the legal work for Berkshire Hathaway.
They asked me to change the logo we are using for Compounding Quality.
Their request is 100% justified, of course.
I started Compounding Quality from a small room at my parents' home and used the red Warren Buffett logo to tweet around on X (Twitter at the time) just for fun.
At the time, I could never have imagined that Compounding Quality would grow to over 500,000 social media followers and 225,000 email subscribers.
Here is one of the first tweets ever:
The fact that Warren Buffett has probably seen Compounding Quality is quite intriguing.
Why? Warren Buffett is a true role model for many people (including myself).
Last year, I spent several months reading everything Warren has ever said and written (5,000 pages).
I summarized everything in a 60-page free e-book that you can read here:
E-book Warren Buffett
10 Key lessons I took away?
Be disciplined
Buy quality businesses
Pricing power is crucial
The longer you invest, the better
Market fluctuations are your friend
Never borrow money to invest in stocks
Invest in companies led by great managers
Boring companies are usually great investments
Invest in companies that can reinvest a lot in organic growth
Your best ideas should have the largest weight in your portfolio
Warren Buffett’s integrity is amazing.
The world would be a healthier and wealthier place when everyone could be a bit more like Warren.
And that’s why it was so important to still wink to the old logo in the new one.
And I have to apologize…
… I am sorry that you have to look at my face from now on.
Warren Buffett is way sexier than I am.
And while Warren Buffett can read 500 pages a day, I can scroll through 500 memes a day.
Modern problems require modern solutions.
The advantage we still have? My hair isn’t white yet and hopefully, all Partners can still let the magic of compounding work for us for several decades.
What do you think about the new logo? Curious to hear your thoughts!
Happy Compounding!
Pieter
PS It's quite intriguing that Warren Buffett has probably seen Compounding Quality and the message from Munger, Tolles and Olsen was friendly, especially for lawyers. :)
That’s it for today.
I would love to welcome you as a Partner to Compounding Quality.
You now only pay $399 instead of $499.

I think the new logo looks great. It sounds like the thing was handled well by both you and the Buffett team. It's nice to hear that there are lawyers who realize that they can often accomplish what they want by requesting things politely instead of immediately going to the barricades.
Why did they ask you to change the logo? Because you used his face in the logo?
His name is synonymous of investing in quality businesses and I don't see why that is an issue. I am sure the logo attracts a lot of people to take a look. I know it had an impact on me and it was much later I saw the writing.
